Time to reflect on last Saturday’s event.

The weather was warm but a little blustery for our gathering at the Naval Memorial making reading prayers a little awkward at times! Many thanks to the Byron Road Gurdwara for their warm hospitality and excellent food. Unfortunately, this made us a little late in arriving at the KMWA Mosque in Canterbury Street, where we were also warmly received.

We all enjoyed a fantastic time at St Mark’s Church with supporting speeches from local Councillors, excellent dancing from the Kitka Bulgarian Folk group, superb singing from MJPraise, and moving music and singing from the Music Man Project and local childern from the Chatham Turkish community. There were well considered talks by members of the Medway Youth Council.

Many thanks from the MIFA team go to everyone who participated in this event, from those who organised the audio-visual presentation and general support at St Mark’s, to all those who attended and set-up their stalls in the church, the provision of refreshments etc, etc, etc. Very many heartfelt thanks.

We estimated that there were well over 100 prople at the church and many more attended at the Gurwara and Mosque. Here are some photographs.

We’re nearly there! Please see if you can attend tomorrow, either at the locations along the route, or at 4 p.m. the finale in St Mark’s Church in Gillingham town centre where there will be lots of dancing, singing, art, refreshments etc. Come along and have some fun!

The team are actively planning this year’s Walk for Peace event on 2 July! We’ve had lots of help from The Dialogue Society and Byron Road Gurdwara who have hosted planning meetings. The plan this year is to meet at the Chatham Naval Memorial, then walk to the Byron Road Gurdwara, the Kent Muslim Welfare Association Mosque and ending up at St Mark’s Church. More details soon.
